Lakawon Island is a 16-hectare island located 48 kilometers north of Bacolod City. It used to be the residence of fishermen, however they were forced to relocate after typhoon Yolanda damaged the island in 2013. Now, it is developed into a resort which gives employment opportunities to the former locals.
The beaches of this island rival Boracay’s white sand, albeit they do have a cream-colored sand – it is perfectly framed with crystal blue waters and tall coconut trees. It is also home to one of the biggest floating bars in Asia, while also accommodating a lot of activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, and many more!
The province of Negros Occidental is booming with unnoticed tourist spots, but Lakawon Island is now getting the recognition it deserves thanks to the love of the locals and workers. It is now the perfect escape for those who want to get away from the busy city.
