The Ruins
This is a must-visit whenever you are in Bacolod! Hailed as the ‘Taj Mahal’ of Negros, the mansion built by Don Mariano to his beloved Maria Braga stood the test of time and World War 2. This mansion sits in the middle of a sugar plantation, and was burned dpwn by its family so that the Japanese won’t be able to use it as headquarters during the war.
It is best to visit this around 4 pm until the evening so you can get a day and night view of the ruins.
Laguerta Home of the Vintage Glasses Museum
South of Bacolod City lies Laguerta: The Vintage Glasses Museum. It’s relatively small, but its front lawn has interesting sculptures while the building having a waterfall. The owner is a collector of ‘Carnival Glass’ which are tastefully arranged in their own shelves. It’s two-in-one, you can admire their garden and also the vintage glass collection inside!
Bantug Lake Ranch
Bantug Lake Ranch offers a quick getaway from the stress of everyday life, with its 7-hectare resort of many activities. Lakawon Island
Lakawon is a banana-shaped island paradise that is located near Bacolod City. It is the home of TawHai, the biggest floating bar in Asia. The island offers you tranquil waters and coconut trees, leaving you with a view that will soothe your weary soul. This place is very popular for Negros Island natives especially because its affordable and beautiful.
San Sebastian Cathedral
The San Sebastian Cathedral is among the most famous infrastructures of Bacolod City. It was originally made from wood, but during 1825 it was renovated to be built from coral stones. A visit during the day will give you time to worship while in the night, it becomes a marvelous artwork. It is a marvel because despite the test of time, it is still functional as a place of prayer.
